Video: Discussion of Legislative Repeal of South Dakota’s IM 22

During the legislative crackerbarrel meeting in Rapid City today, there was some protracted discussion between the audience and South Dakota Rep. Chip Campbell, Rep. Juile Frye-Mueller and Senator Lance Russell regarding the legislature’s efforts to repeal Initiated Measure 22 which was passed by the voters of South Dakota last November.

While most legislators agree that Initiated Measure 22 is extremely problematic and unconstitutional, many members of the legislature disagree on the proper way to deal with the mess left by the passage of IM 22. Some believe the measure is so bad, it must be dealt with immediately, while others believe the legislature should go slow, target legislation to specific problems, and be more respectful of the will of the voters at the ballot box.
