This statement by Tim Wildmon, President of the American Family Association, is being issued in response to a press release that the Southern Poverty Law Center has distributed to media saying that members of Congress should not speak at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. this week due to the “extremism” of the American Family Association and Family Research Council.

During the Saturday afternoon session of the Values Voter Summit in Washington D.C., a panel discussion was held on religious liberty and the threats to religious liberty in America today. The panel consisted of teenager Angela Hildenbrand, whose religious freedom was threatened in school, Mike Johnson of the Liberty Institute, Todd Starnes of Fox News, and Lt. Gen. William Boykin. Because things have become so bad, the Family Research Council and the Liberty Institute recently released the Survey of Religious Hostility in America.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli spoke at the Values Voter Summit Saturday morning. Cuccinelli was the first one to challenge the abomination known as ObamaCare. When Media Research Center President Brent Bozell introduced him, Bozell called Cuccinelli the “next governor of the state of Virginia.”

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer spoke this morning at the Values Voter Summit. Since becoming governor, Brewer has signed into law over 50 pro-life bills. In addition to a strong pro-life record, she has championed religious liberty and protecting the people of Arizona from the hazards of illegal immigration.

Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation was one of the first speakers of the Saturday session. Ryan, who is black, said he isn’t an “African American,” just “an American.” According to his bio, his biological mother was raped and chose to give birth to her son rather than abort him.

The last speaker of the afternoon session of the Values Voter Summit was Kamal Saleem, founder of Koome Ministries. Saleem is a former terrorist who worked for the PLO, beginning at age 7. He has worked for Yasser Arafat, Muammar Gadaffi, and Saddam Hussein. However, as an adult, he suffered an accident and was nursed back to health by Christians.

This afternoon, U.S. Senate candidate from Texas Ted Cruz spoke at the FRC Values Voter Summit. Cruz talked about polls, the economy and where it seems America is heading, American stature and respect in the world, religious freedom and America’s Christian heritage.

GOP Vice Presidential Candidate and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) spoke at the FRC Values Voter Summit this morning, welcomed by a very enthusiastic crowd. Ryan spoke not only on the violence currently going on in the Middle East, but on the economic conditions in America and President Obama’s broken promises. There was also a little dust-up from liberal disruptors in the audience.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke at the Values Voter Summit in Washington D.C. this morning. She discussed Islamic violence against America and Americans overseas, and efforts within our own federal government to purge any negative reference to Islam or any ties between Islam and terrorism from official documents.
