Linkage: FBIGate and the Dallas Shootings

Dallas_police_shootingThe Rule of Law and those who uphold it took twin beatings this week.

The Rule of Law cracked and crumbled along Clintonian fault lines on Tuesday as the Marquis de Hillary received yet another pass on yet another scandal. Two days later, Micah Johnson shot 12 Dallas police officers, killing five.

Facts are still coming in on Thursday night’s shootings and “FBIGate.” Details remain sketchy. But let’s be crystal-clear on one thing: neither the FBI Director James Comey’s recommendation to not prosecute Hillary Clinton or the shootings in Dallas are “hardware” problems. They’re  symptoms of a national “heart disease”: The utter disregard and disdain for the Rule of Law and the imago Dei.

They’re what happens when Big Government replaces the family as the bedrock of society. When too many children are raised in too many fatherless households. When a president can flout the law and twist the Constitution into his personal pretzel to advance his political agenda – with impunity.

They’re what happens when a society loses its moral compass. When the 10 Commandments are replaced with The One Commandment: “Thou Shalt Not Offend Anyone, Anywhere, About Anything, Ever” (unless you’re a Progressive, in which case the Tolerance Nazis reign supreme and all dissent will be punished and stamped out.)

They’re what happens when morality is relative. When unborn and newborn life are cheap. When accountability, integrity, and personal responsibility are relegated to the dust bin of history as quaint but antiquated notions. When children are taught they’re little more than a complicated concoction of Campbell’s soup.

They’re what happens when the Rule of Law is supplanted by the Law of the Jungle. When society continues to decay and the Judeo-Christian ethic upon which Essential Liberty rests gets smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.

Sadly, these types of incidents are the predictable outgrowth of a society that has kicked God out of the public square. Confused “equality” with immorality, murder with “choice,” and looks more and more like the Book of Judges, where “everyone did as they saw fit.”

Responding to the sniper ambush in Dallas, Evangelist Franklin Graham noted that “America is in trouble.” In a Friday Facebook post, Graham pointed to the “cure”:

The sniper ambush in Dallas last night that killed 5 police officers and injured more took place some 1000 feet from where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. As we head toward two national political conventions, our nation seems as divided as ever. America is in trouble–we are in need of Divine intervention like never before. Our next president is not our great hope; Jesus Christ alone is the only hope for a sinful nation and people enraged with evil. The Bible tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). Pray for peace and an end to the hate and violence. I pray that God will comfort and wrap His loving arms around the families and communities grieving their loved ones.

The Word of God says, “Put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore” (Psalm 131:3).

Franklin Graham is in the midst of his 50-state Decision America Tour, where he’s encouraging people to pray for America and get involved politically. He’s not endorsing any candidates, but is urging people to vote for those who uphold biblical values. Graham recently announced live prayer events for both the Republican and Democratic Conventions slated for later this month.

“Our politicians, on both sides, and our political process need prayer,” Graham wrote in a recent Facebook post. He added that this is a “pivotal time in our nation’s history.”

As ClintonGate #12,846 and the Dallas shootings indicate, it is indeed.
