On June 27, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.) expanded its search for the missing Internal Revenue Service (IRS) emails relevant to the targeting of the tea party and other 501(c)(4) organizations. Thad Cochran’s Dirty Dealings in Mississippi
We’re used to Democrats telling blatant lies to push their agenda and engaging in shady, criminal election activity, but we have not often seen Republicans stoop to such in-your-face dirty tricks, giving the proverbial middle finger to the will of their conservative base while viciously and falsely painting us TEA Partiers as racists to woo Democrats.

It’s rare when you see a RINO (Republican In Name Only) do the honorable thing (they’re usually too engrossed in doing the convenient thing, the “pragmatic” thing, the easy thing, the nest-feathering thing to worry about doing the right thing), so such an action by Evan Alvarez, leader of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans, deserves commendation.

The 2010 mid terms caught the attention of the GOP establishment to the point of unearthing their RINO assassin bureau. Prior to that event, the term RINO remained unknown and certainly devoid of the public’s disgust which that acronym now supposes. Today, our Constitutionally-based Tea Party has replaced the liberal Democrat as the RINO’s chief adversary, and for good reason!

It is often said that politics makes for strange bedfellows. But it can also make for messy divorces. Case in point, the closely contested Mississippi Senate Republican primary, where 36-year incumbent Thad Cochran narrowly defeated conservative challenger Chris McDaniel…with the help of thousands of Democrats.

The obviously liberal-biased language to describe real Republicans aside (e.g. “hard-edged,” “activist conservatives,” “hard right,” “flawed primary candidates,” etc.), this Politico article entitled “The staggering price of crushing the tea party” provides some insight into how costly it has been for the RINOs to maintain their hold on power.

They say all politics is local, but this is easy to forget amidst the incessant frenzy of a 24-hour news cycle that tends to focus exclusively on national politics. For many people, particularly those residing in sprawling suburban bedroom communities or bustling urban centers, it is easy to overlook the local in favor of the national.

George Washington warned against the “baneful effects of the spirit of the party” and made mention to the “torrent of boundless ambition” and of the “sapping current of corrupted morals.” The scope of Cochran’s campaign tactics are beholden to both his “boundless ambition” and “corrupted morals.” If these attributes are worthy Senatorial appellations, then by his own testament, Cochran should be Reid’s replacement.
