South Dakota Legislative Update, Feb. 2, 2012

A new bill introduced to the South Dakota House of Representatives deals with our nation’s energy needs and state’s rights.  HCR 1005 is titled: Urging Congress to clearly delegate responsibility for the regulation of hydraulic fracturing to the states. Several of the bills American Clarion is watching have activity scheduled for the next few days, including pregnancy centers, Second Amendment rights, Shariah law, health care and ObamaCare. Get caught up, and let your elected representatives know how they can best represent you.

South Dakota Legislatiave Update, Jan. 24, 2012

These are the bills American Clarion will be monitoring during the 2012 South Dakota Legislative Session. A lot of bills have been added since the last update provided by American Clarion, including such especially notable ones, including a texting while driving ban, a requirement to list votes cast by legislators on the legislative website, a bill concerning crisis pregnancy centers, an interstate health care compact, repeal of certain driver’s license requirements, drug testing for welfare recipients, exemptions from childhood immunizations, anti-bullying initiatives and special protections for homosexuals.

RC Legislative Crackerbarrel: Rep. Don Kopp on Constitutional Carry Bill

A legislative crackerbarrel meeting was held this morning at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology regarding the 2012 South Dakota Legislative session. Several questions were taken on HB 1015, the Constitutional Carry bill, which was voted down in the House Judiciary Committee on Friday. This is a video clip of Rep. Rapid City Legislative Crackerbarrel Discussion of Constitutional Carry Bill

The first legislative crackerbarrel meeting of 2012 for Rapid City was held this morning at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. In the meantime, this is a clip from the first discussion of HB 1015, the Constitutional Carry bill, and it’s defeat in the state House Judiciary Committee yesterday.   As he did in committee testimony yesterday, Rep. Brian Gosch again stated that the main reason he voted against this bill to expand Second Amendment rights was to “punish” the South Dakota Gun Owners group which supported the bill.

Constitutional Carry Bill Killed In Committee

The South Dakota House Judiciary Committee killed the Constitutional Carry Bill, HB 1015, in committee today in a 7-5 vote.  The bill’s sponsor, a representative of South Dakota Gun Owners, and another South Dakota State Representative spoke in favor of the bill, with a representative of the Department of Public Safety and of the South Dakota State’s Attorneys Association spoke against the bill. Some legislators made it clear they were trying to punish a state gun rights group with their vote against the bill.
