What did our Framers really say we must do when the federal government usurps power? They never said, “When the federal government ignores the Constitution, amend the Constitution”. They never said, “File a lawsuit and let federal judges decide.” Instead, they advised two manly remedies. We’ll look at one of them – nullification - in this paper.

Only a few generations ago, Americans were anchored in concrete ethics, felt the need to instruct their posterity in biblical morality, and understood the value of the founding fathers’ labors. Lamentably, our cultures values and system of thought have drastically changed. Americans now abhor absolute ethical standards, public education now has postmodern relativism as the teaching standard, and citizens are forfeiting their role as the people in government. How did our country digress?

The very notion of “gay marriage” is an artificial construct. It’s the aberrant byproduct of the sexual revolution, which, itself, was largely instigated by bug doctor turned “sexologist,” Alfred Kinsey.

Popular understanding of the Constitution has degraded into a twisted mutant of what it was designed to be. Our elected officials take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, but time has proven that to be meaningless lip service. They really don’t represent us at all. They do whatever they want.

This year April 15th marked Holocaust Remembrance Day which should remind us of the horrors perpetrated by Nazi Germany and its European allies against the stateless and hapless Jews a mere 70 years ago. It is no accident to reflect upon the name of the largest Jewish cemetery in the world: It is called: Europe.

What would you think about marriage if you knew that representatives from 14 religious traditions came together and ALL affirmed that marriage is between a man and a woman? The Left tells us that counterfeit marriage is “moral” and that defenders of marriage are “on the wrong side of history.” But history, as well as science and religion, tell a very different story.

Free speech, religious expression, privacy, due process, bodily integrity, the sanctity of human life, the sovereignty of the family, individuality, the right to self-defense, protection against police abuses, representative government, private property, human rights—the very ideals that once made this nation great—have become casualties of a politically correct, misguided, materialistic, amoral, militaristic culture.

When America, Indiana, or any people, groups, or nations decide to throw off their acknowledgement of God and His authority, whether they realize it or not they are abandoning their only hope for peace and security. To break the moral laws will have the same result as breaking the physical laws. The transgressors can fully expect to find themselves…well, broken.

Before its foundation America first flew the Appeal to Heaven flag. It was the banner George Washington used on his navy ships to signal that their only hope against British rule and religious persecution was an appeal to heaven. The crusade continues today.

As American’s we tend to bristle at the thought of monarchy. We think it a bad form of civil government because it means one man can tyrannically rule over the people. But we can clearly see in our day that tyranny does not depend upon monarchy to flourish. Our republican form of government has succumbed to tyranny in our day for the same reason that all human civil governments develop in the direction of tyranny.
