SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Saved Whiting Woman Money

paidOn July 23, 2013, I reviewed a hospital bill for a woman from Whiting, Indiana. She is a client of the insurance agency where I work.

The bill was for $246.34. I checked with our client’s Medicare supplement insurance company to learn what it knew of the bill. It reported that Medicare never sent the claim to it. You can’t blame an insurance company for not paying a bill that Medicare never sent to it.

To fix this problem for our client, I wrote a polite letter to the hospital to explain the problem. I asked the hospital to send certain claims information directly our client’s insurance company so that it could process the claim. When I write such a letter to a hospital or doctor’s office, I usually get quick cooperation.

When the hospital sends the items that I requested, I am confident that the insurance company will pay on the claim according to the policy terms that the client has. Often, that means that the entire bill will get paid.

The help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. The owners, managers, and staff of this insurance agency really do care about our senior citizen clients. We really do “go the extra mile” to help them. Does your insurance agent or agency have this high a standard of service for senior citizen clients? If not, why not?
