SOS: Speaking of Seniors - A ‘Keystone Cops’ Claim System

Keystone_KopsOn September 9, 2015, I helped a client resolve problems with $1,375.93 of unpaid medical bills. The total was a combination of three bills on three dates from one hospital in Chicago. The client is from Cedar Lake, Indiana.

Regarding the first date of service and bill, Medicare denied the claim at first. But, Medicare changed its mind and approved the claim for medical services after an appeal of the denial. But, Medicare never even bothered to inform our client’s insurance company that the claim was approved so that the insurance company could pay its share. Do you understand that? Medicare never even bothered to tell our client’s insurance company about its reconsideration and approval of the medical services.

The second claim was reported to the insurance company as being denied. But, Medicare told the client and me that the second claim was approved. But, the hospital was never paid and wanted money from our client. So, I asked for proof of approval to be sent to our client so that we could forward it to his insurance company so that bill can be processed and paid.

The third claim was mixed up, too. According to the hospital, it filed the claim with Medicare. According to the Medicare representative, Medicare never received a claim from the hospital. According to the insurance company, it received a report that Medicare denied the claim. So, I wrote to the hospital and asked that the claim be sent again to Medicare because Medicare said it never got the claim the first time.

I believe that the letter that I wrote to the hospital and the forms that the client will get from Medicare will resolve all the medical bill problems and get the bills paid. All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency distinguishes itself by “going the extra mile” to help our senior citizen clients with such Medicare related medical bill problems. Does your insurance agent or agency give this high level of service to seniors? If not, why not?
