Twentieth-Century Fox made a motion picture in 1955 titled A Man Called Peter, about the life of U.S. Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall, born MAY 27, 1902. At the age of 25, Peter Marshall emigrated from Scotland, arriving at New York's Ellis Island in 1927. Members of his Sunday school class paid his way to seminary in Atlanta, where he graduated in 1931.At the age of 35, he became pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. His services were attended by leaders, such as President Franklin D. Roosevelt. On January 4, 1947 the Senate appointed Peter Marshall to be their U.S. Senate Chaplain.

Both California and Illinois are hoping that tax hikes will bridge gaping deficits created by politicians’ failure to rein in government growth — including expanded entitlements and exorbitant public sector pensions. Winston Churchill captured what this presidential election is about when he observed, "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." It's why the young black Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J., Cory Booker, got high-level repudiation from the Barack Obama campaign, including from the president himself, when he insolently suggested that Bain Capital, the investment firm once headed by GOP nominee-apparent Mitt Romney, might actually do positive things.
