We need to Embrace American Values

Ted CruzApparently there remains at least one prominent Republican who is willing to fight for traditional American values like innocent human life and marriage.

The Des Moines Register interviewed Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) yesterday about Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) recent comments about abandoning social conservatism to please liberals.

From the Daily Caller:

“Look. I am a conservative,” he asserted. “I am a fiscal conservative, I am a social conservative. I think we’ve seen that in order for the Republican Party to succeed we need to be a big tent. We need to embrace American values, American values that have been present in our country . . . for centuries.”

“There are some who say the Republican Party should no longer stand for life,” he continued. “I don’t agree with that. There are some who say the Republican Party should no longer stand for traditional marriage. I don’t agree with them either. I think we should continue to defend our shared values.”

As I have explained before, you can’t have a fiscally conservative country without first and foremost having a socially conservative country.

As John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Republicans: if you want to remain relevant as a party, if you want to preserve this last, best hope of earth known as America, stand up and defend ALL the conservative values you claim to support.
