The great pillars of all government and of social life [are] virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone that renders us invincible. — Patrick Henry, Founder and first governor of Virginia

South Dakota GOP 2014 Platform Deliberations

Bob Ellis

Day Two of the South Dakota GOP convention in Rapid City was another long day--but not as long as it was for the Platform Committee. If I remember what Chairman Craig Lawrence said this morning, the Platform Committee met until about 10:30 pm last night, then came in about 8:00 am this morning to finally wrap up things right before the general assembly started at 9:30 am. What a tremendous amount of work they did--and good work, at that!

Scenes from the 2014 South Dakota GOP Convention

I'm a delegate and sitting in on the general assembly of the 2014 South Dakota GOP Convention in Rapid City, so my time and focus for reporting is limited, but here are a few scenes from Day Two of the convention today.

Standing Strong for Marriage and Family

Bob Ellis

Get a half-dozen disgruntled liberals in one place, and the "mainstream" media creates a firestorm of publicity. Get a large group of conservatives together to stand for the values upon which our great republic depends, and there's a collective yawn...if the "mainstream" media even shows up at all. Fortunately there is still some non "mainstream" media out there to cover things such as the protest on Capitol Hill in favor of marriage and family.

Russell Senate Office Building

Shouldn’t Harry Reid Try to Rename the Russell Senate Office Building?

Robert Romano

On June 12, Senator Harry Reid sent a letter to Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen urging the team to change its name, which came as the U.S. Patent Office revoked the team’s trademarks in a ruling. But shouldn't Reid be first trying to change the name of the Russell Senate Office Building, named after a Democrat who filibustered civil rights legislation, actively supported segregation, and even co-authored the Southern Manifesto against the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling, Brown v. Board of Education?

Democrats Prefer ‘Political Equality’ to Freedom

Rick Manning

The Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on The Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights, led by Saturday Night Live comedian turned politician Al Franken, voted unanimously against the exact language contained in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. This marks perhaps the first time elected officials have officially voted against the basic freedoms that have been the backbone of our individual liberties for more than 225 years.

The mask is off. All pretense has been dropped, and the anti-Christian left’s boundless depth of hatred for individual liberty, our First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is now on full display.

The Gordon Howie Highway

Just Islam

Victor Sharpe

The irrevocable Islamic and Koranic injunction upon all Muslims is to wage relentless war against any non-Muslim nation state that exists within what Islam decrees as the Dar al-Islam (the House of Islam). Wherever the Muslim foot has trod triumphal in the name of Allah, that territory is considered eternally Islamic land. If it is lost, then it enters the Dar al-Harb (the House of War) and must be retaken and the population either forcibly converted to Islam, forced into dhimmi degradation, or exterminated.

Despite liberal howls, Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby ruling was right

Star Parker

Why exactly is it that Democrats find the Hobby Lobby decision so outrageous that in America religious freedom is respected? That we have law – The Religious Freedom Restoration Act under which the owners of Hobby Lobby sued the federal government – that assures that no federal law will substantially burden individuals in the practice of their religion. Paying for contraception would violate the Christian principles of Hobby Lobby’s owners.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the party over to the so-called moderates wouldn't make any sense at all." - Ronald Reagan, Nov. 10, 1964
