Chinese Marxist Acknowledges What American Marxists Won’t

While I’m glad this Chinese Marxist recognizes this important truth, it is profoundly sad that American Marxists either don’t realize it, or refuse to acknowledge it.

Clay Christensen of Harvard Business School says he recently had a conversation with a Chinese Marxist. The Marxist told him that before his visit to America, he had no idea how critical religion is to the functioning of democracy.

The reason why democracy works, he said, is not because government is designed to oversee what everybody does, but rather democracy works because most people most of the time voluntarily choose to obey the law. The Chinese Marxist acknowledged what many Americans don’t even realize today (because they have bought the lies of secularist revisionists): that throughout most of our history, most Americans have attended church on a regular basis, where they learned that they should follow good laws not just because they are accountable to society, but because they are accountable to their Creator.

This is a profound truth that we have pointed out many, many times at American Clarion. It is a truth our founders recognized and told us is critical to the success and survival of our constitutional republic.

One of the least religious of the founders, Benjamin Franklin, said:

Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.

And President John Adams told us

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

President George Washington told us:

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?

If our unique American liberties were founded on Christian principles (and they were), then what will happen to our liberties if society comes to hold Christian principles in contempt (as the American Left currently does, and is pushing our culture toward)?  If America was founded on the recognition that our liberties come from God (and it was), what will happen to our liberties if society comes to hold God in contempt (as the American Left currently does, and is pushing our culture toward)?

It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.  In fact, our founders already told us what would happen, over 200 years ago.

the God of Liberals is Satan, the murderous liar. So too is the Jesuit God and the Tamudist’s God. As too the marxist. now you can have no vocational aptitude outside of the evil of Satan’s domain. Any skill can be undone by the power of the state. By every evil act the wicked shall slay the good.
