SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Oatmeal and Cream Cheese Cookies

I recently helped a client with her medical bill. A medical service provider billed her for two charges that were not approved by Medicare. The general rule is that if Medicare does not approve a charge, then neither Medicare nor the Medicare supplement insurance company will pay on that charge.

SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Government and Turtles

What do the federal government and turtles have in common? Speed! One of our senior citizen clients got married in October 2013. After her honeymoon, she did the responsible thing and asked the Social Security Administration to change the name on her social security card to her new, married name. A few weeks later, she got a new card with her married name. But, Medicare never sent her a new Medicare ID card with her new last name.

SOS: Speaking of Seniors - If I Win a Big Lottery Prize

On September 3, 2014, I spoke with two seniors that I wish I could have helped. One phoned me and the other visited my office to work with me on several medical bills. Both of them owed money because of the federal government’s policy on “self-administered drugs.”

SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Client Wasn’t in Hospice!

On June 4, 2014, a client brought bills and interesting stories to me. Her doctor’s claims for treating her on March 25 and March 31 of this year were denied by Medicare because Medicare ruled the doctor couldn’t have treated her because she was in hospice. Just one problem: she was never in hospice.

SOS: Speaking of Seniors – A Client Feeling Better

SOS: Speaking of Seniors - A Client Feeling Better

“I feel so much better!” a client said in my office on May 28, 2014. “I was worried about these medical bills before I saw you today.” That is what a retired teacher from Crown Point told me after I had met with her in my office and helped her with a Medicare related medical bill problem. Our client did not cause the problem. Her former employer did not cause the problem. Her insurance company did not cause the problem. Medicare caused the problem.
