SOS: Speaking of Seniors - 17 Claims Missing
On February 27, 2017, I reviewed a medical bill for a client from Gary, Indiana. The bill sought $261.15 from the client for 17 different doctor visits in 2016 and 2017.
I phoned the client’s Medicare supplement insurance company to learn what it knew about the claims. IT REPORTED THAT MEDICARE NEVER SENT THE 17 CLAIMS TO IT. So, the claims were filed with Medicare and Medicare paid its portion on the claims, but Medicare never sent any of 17 claims for our client to the client’s Medicare supplement insurance company.
You can’t blame an insurance company for not paying claims that Medicare never sends to it. To fix the problem, I wrote a letter to the medical firm explaining the problem and asking that firm to send essential claims information directly to the insurance company.
If I had not helped the senior citizen client from Gary, she would have been hounded to pay a bill that she really did not owe. I do this kind of work all the time for the senior citizen clients of our insurance agency. We “go the extra mile” to help our senior citizen clients. Does your insurance agency give the same high level of help to its senior citizen clients? If not, why not?
