SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Saves St. John Woman $1,600

moneyOn August 8, 2016, I got a phone call from a client in Saint John, Indiana. She was happy, but she had a question.

In April of 2016, I investigated some medical bills that she got and wrote a letter to get those medical bills fixed. At that time, a hospital wanted her to pay $1,699.98. I found problems with the bills and wrote a letter to explain the problems and how the hospital’s math did not work.

On August 8, 2016, the client phoned me to tell me that the $1,699.98 bill had been reduced to only $11.84. She asked me if she had to pay that.

“Did the hospital tell you why you owed $11.84?” I asked.

“They said it was for some medicine that neither Medicare nor my insurance company would cover,” she responded.

“Okay. That means it was classified by Medicare as ‘SELF-ADMINISTERED DRUGS’,” I responded. “That problem started after Mr. Obama took office and his administration started writing new definitions for Medicare to follow. I’m really good at fighting mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system. But, I can’t fight a federal government policy to push that bill onto you.”

She told me that she was happy anyway. The rest of the bill evaporated after my letter to the hospital and she was glad that the new balance was only $11.84.

All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency distinguishes itself from others by “going the extra mile” for our senior citizen clients. Does your insurance agent or agency give this high standard of service to senior citizen clients? If not, why not?
