Warning People About Alligators

By now most people in America have heard about the terrible tragedy at Disney World in Florida where a two-year-old boy was grabbed off a beach and killed by an alligator.
The horror of this event is truly stunning, not just because of the innocent youth of the victim, but because in a fun place like Disney World, violent death is the last thing on anyone and everyone’s mind.
What’s more, reports are coming in that while there were signs posted in the area telling people there was deep water and not to swim, there was nothing to warn visitors to Disney World that there might be alligators in the area. Imagine it: an area where thousands upon thousands of people come from other areas with their children every year, and locals knew there were alligators in the water…yet there were no signs to warn unwary visitors about the danger.
As you might expect, the media is now reporting that Disney plans to put up signs, in the wake of this heart-wrenching death, about the dangers of alligators in the area. Disney is also looking at a multi-million dollar lawsuit for their failure to adequately warn visitors about the inherent dangers (indeed, the chief danger) in the area.
Pretty much anyone in their right mind would have reasonably expected Disney to warn people about a known danger from alligators in the area. Even those of us who are disgusted by people who file greedy lawsuits over things that are common sense (coffee is hot, putting your hand into a blender is a bad idea, etc.) recognize that responsible people have a common-sense duty to warn unsuspecting people about dangers a reasonable person might not be aware of.
What would we think if Disney not only failed to post signs warning visitors about alligators, but they actually posted signs telling people there were no alligators at all in the area? Or if Disney told visitors that the alligators in the area were completely tame, and children could feed them bread with no danger? We would be outraged at Disney’s criminal negligence, wouldn’t we? We would expect Disney to be held accountable to the fullest degree possible, for misleading people about the danger, wouldn’t we? Rightly so.
What about a government and a society that not only fails to warn people about great danger, but actually pretends the danger doesn’t exist? Crazy, you say? It’s happening every day in America, and has been for many years.
Homosexual behavior, in addition to being recognized as immoral by the doctrine of every major religion, is a very dangerous practice. It is dangerous spiritually, dangerous mentally and emotionally, and dangerous physically. Yet our popular culture, and even the government that is normally charged with the safety of its citizens, not only fails to warn people about the dangers, but aggressively lies to the people in portraying the behavior as normal, natural and healthy.
The spiritual dangers of homosexual behavior are nothing to trifle with. The Bible is the foundational document of moral and theological truth for Christianity–the religion claimed by more than 70% of Americans, and it makes clear that homosexual behavior is an immoral perversion of the Creator’s design for human sexuality. As such, it is called a sin, and sin can eternally separate a person from their creator.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. (Romans 1:26-27)
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
We tend to warn our children, and people in society in general, that things like drunkenness, stealing and swindling are wrong, and will bring unpleasant consequences on those who engage in them. At a minimum, we do not send the message that such behaviors are something that healthy and happy people do. Why do we pretend otherwise when it comes to sexual irresponsibility?
I realize that many people don’t actually believe the tenets of the religion they claim to adhere to (the hazards inherent in the dichotomy of refusing to believe what you claim to believe in is a topic for another day), yet secular data practically shouts to us that homosexual behavior is not normal, natural or healthy.
Science (which is the real religion of many in our modern culture–at least, what passes for “science”) makes it clear beyond any reasonable doubt that homosexual behavior is not normal or natural. Yet we adopt a hypocritically anti-science stance and pretend homosexual behavior is normal and natural, when it is neither.
Scientific information also makes it clear that homosexuals suffer in vast disproportion to average society from mental and emotional problems. While apologists for this behavior like to claim this is because homosexuals are “persecuted,” the same mental and emotional problems persist even in areas like San Francisco and some overseas countries where homosexual behavior has been highly tolerated for many yeas. It isn’t a matter of “persecution,” but rather one of an immoral and self-destructive behavior at war with one’s own conscience. I know; I used to be a (heterosexually) promiscuous drunk, and I paid a tremendously high mental and emotional toll for this war against my conscience.
Even beyond the mental and emotional hazards of homosexual behavior, they physical hazards of homosexual behavior are stunning. Though our government spokesmen pretend homosexual behavior is normal, natural and healthy, they never talk about the information gathered by our own Centers for Disease Control (CDC) which find, year after year, that homosexual behavior is at the root of the overwhelming number of AIDS/HIV cases. As the latest statistics show, the homosexual community, which makes up less than 3% of the population, accounts for 78% of new infections and 54% of people infected with AIDS overall. When we come to terms with the promiscuity in the homosexual community, it’s not surprising that governments around the world have found the AIDS rate for homosexuals to be 10X (or more) that of prostitutes.
AiDS isn’t the only health hazard associated with homosexual behavior. Homosexuals also experience incredibly higher rates of gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, HPV, hepatitis, anal cancer, and other diseases. It’s no wonder that homosexuals have for years been banned from giving blood. (Yet the same government that bans them from giving blood out of one side of its mouth, claims from the other side that this behavior is normal, natural and healthy.) Even domestic violence is much greater in the homosexual community.
If these kinds of dangers were associated with, say, the behavior of stakeboarding, or eating eggs, or picking your nose, our government spokespersons and media outlets would be barking nonstop to warn people about the dangers of the associated behaviors. Yet there is not only silence from government and media about the dangers of homosexual behavior, but affirmation and encouragement of this behavior!
If someone refuses to warn another person about danger, is that showing love…or disregard for the person’s safety? If someone deliberately misleads a person into thinking a dangerous practice is safe, is that “tolerance”…or is that criminal negligence?
Our government is teaching people, including innocent children in our schools, that there are no alligators–and those things that some people say look like alligator, they aren’t really, and they aren’t dangerous at all.
Our government and our culture are recklessly hostile to the safety and well-being of our people.
Isn’t it about time we started holding our government accountable for telling the truth?
