Man in despair over billsOn May 10, 2016, I helped a client with a medical bill problem by phoning Medicare together from my office. The client is from Crown Point, Indiana.

Once the client gave permission to Medicare for me to speak and question on her behalf, I started questioning why our client was having problems with a medical bill. I had the Medicare representative read to me specific portions of Medicare review of the claim. I learned that the medical firm was wrongfully billing our client for $511 that it already knew Medicare ruled she did not owe to the medical service provider – in this case a clinic.

Here with some edits to protect the privacy of our client is part of the letter that I sent to the medical service provider that sent the false bill.

In our phone call to Medicare today, I asked the Medicare Claims Representative to read to me the footnotes that Medicare put with the claims for charges of $58 and $453. She reported to me that the footnotes stated that the patient owes nothing for these services because payment for these services was included in another claim ON THE SAME DAY.

So, as of now, OUR CLIENT OWES NOTHING. If you filed the claim incorrectly, which is what I suspect you did, then refile the claim CORRECTLY. But, do not send a bill to our client for $511 when you already know that she does not owe it because the Medicare EOB that you received told you that she does not owe it.

All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency distinguishes itself by “going the extra mile” for our clients. Does your insurance agency give this high level of service to its senior citizen clients? If not, why not?
