City of God in a Pagan Land?

Phil Jensen

“What grace is meant to do is to help good people, not to escape their sufferings, but to bear them with a stout heart, with a fortitude that finds its strength in faith.”

Practical Atheism, Existential Nihilism, and Blind Paganism are on the rise as the Christian faith from little to great is become a tragic afterthought in both religious and non-religious circles alike.

The Gospel is self-revealing, although we like to make the message more palatable by sugarcoating the more offensive parts. A faithful witness must share a complete Gospel. Ultimately, the wisdom and wonder to be found in the Word of God speaks for itself. We ought to challenge a growing select majority who seek to label Christianity just one of the many mythical religions conceived by man to make sense of the world.

Rick Kriebel 2016

“The bodies of irrational animals are bent toward the ground, whereas man was made to walk erect with his eyes on heaven, as though to remind him to keep his thoughts on things above.”

A brief case for Christianity, above and beyond all carnal-hypothetical, could read thus:

1. The inadequacy of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution as a replacement for Biblical Creation:

Woodrow Wilcox

A. The case for naturalism, which is at the heart of the Darwinian model of progression, fails to withstand the law of probability. Random chance is wholly incapable of producing the miraculous results proposed by Darwinists (the second law of thermodynamics further compounds the probability and overall legitimacy of evolutionary theory.) Dr. Jonathan Sarfati concludes the mathematical impossibility “that anything as complex as a protein, let alone a living cell or a human, could spring up by chance.”

B. Darwinian evolution is not upheld by the standards applied by the scientific method (not observable or testable). Consequently, every living species conceived fulfills its genetic imprint from birth (unique developmental patterns at conception).

C. Proponents of evolution understand that the scientific method only leaves room for very minor/gradual changes over a long period of time. However, some of these same proponents contradict themselves as they promote ‘punctuated equilibria’ (rapid evolution) to explain inconsistencies in the fossil record. Regardless, the lack of transitional fossils during the Cambrian Era continues to validate Darwin’s original insecurities (as he called it “the most obvious and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory”).

D. The complementary reproductive systems of man and woman are indicative of our specially created and designed purpose.

2. The historical reliability of the Bible account:

A. The discovery of early ancient manuscripts (i.e. Dead Sea Scrolls) detailing the unaltered accounts of the Old Testament.

B. Numerous archeological finds that support the validity of events recorded in the Bible, and just as important, the fact that none of these finds have contradicted the explanations and descriptions referenced in Biblical accounts (people, places, events, etc.). The notable and highly respected Jewish archaeologist, Nelson Glueck, declared that “no archeological discovery has ever controverted a single biblical reference. Scores of archeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible.”

C. Surviving outside (or secondary) sources that corroborate certain actualities of Biblical Christianity (as noted in the written works of the following authors: Josephus AD 93, Pliny the Younger AD 112, Tacitus AD 116, Suetonius AD 120, Lucian AD 170, The Talmud 70-200 AD). To merely write off these individuals and events as part of mythical folklore is an exercise in willful, biased subjectivity.

D. The fact that the New Testament accounts derived from separate primary sources (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, Jude, James) verify each other on all the central points of the Christian faith (these writings were pooled together as part of the canon of scriptures – collectively making up the New Testament).

When godless skeptics treat the Bible as one single fabricated book of folklore they are merely putting their willful ignorance on full display. The Grand Author is the Single Inspiration for the words on the page but they were written by various human hands over many centuries, independent of one another.

Other notable considerations include the blood of the early Christian martyrs who died for their faith. Their righteous stand is a never dying testimony to the efficacy of the God-Man, His Message, and the Movement

In addition, there is consensus among all notable historians that the Jesus of the Bible did, in fact, exist and was the central figure upon whom the Christian faith was founded. In particular, it is clearly evident by the personal naturality of the epistles (authored by Paul who was wholly sincere in his pastoral letters to the various churches that rose up among the Gentiles) that if this great disciple was writing fiction – he surely didn’t know it!

Even Bart Ehrman, New Testament scholar and hardened critic of Christianity, has gone on record in support of an ‘actual’ Jesus of Nazareth, despite the contrary claims put forth by many of Ehrman’s own disciples and the majority of new atheists.

A Christianity Free America?

“Justice being taken away, then, what are kingdoms but great robberies? For what are robberies themselves, but little kingdoms?”

Socialists, radicals and militants are forcing the religion of secular humanism ‘if it feels good do it’ and actually bullying and breaking laws to do so. I advocate changing minds with apologetics, changing hearts with the gospel, and reestablishing traditional values, as well as our rule of law, at the voting booth.

In 1829, during his Harvard Speech, Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story proudly proclaimed Christianity’s role in shaping our moral civil society,

“I verily believe Christianity necessary to the support of civil society. One of the beautiful boasts of our municipal jurisprudence is that Christianity is a part of the Common Law… There never has been a period in which the Common Law did not recognize Christianity as lying its foundations.”

We are living in confusing and arbitrary times. The folks in charge are acting so boldly that they are actually utilizing illegal means to legalize immorality.

The Constitution was written for people who had a high view of the Bible, and Judeo-Christian principles and foundations. How swiftly things have changed. Christian expressions of faith and morality have been ruled a federal offense. The Word of Truth is being driven underground and our nation is becoming increasingly more vulnerable as a result.

Look where compromise has gotten us. We have been complicit in our own demise. It is vital that we stand behind the moral, fundamental, constitutional few who seek to ethically and logically collaborate with an exasperated American majority. The GOP will have to embrace constitutional conservatism or die. Wearing their faith and convictions on their sleeve, a scandal-weary America is become politically educated. Many are simply fed up. Speaking loudly and proudly they understand that the time is now. The days of playing not to lose are over. A righteous stand is long overdue.

“For a prohibition always increases an illicit desire so long as the love of and joy in holiness is too weak to conquer the inclination to sin…”

Laws and policy derived from spiritual realities (most notability the depravity of man) and Judeo-Christian foundations is what has kept America strong and sovereign. We needn’t buy into religious-humanism’s claim that these truths have not shaped and sustained our nation and that these foundations are no longer necessary.

To destroy America you must destroy its foundation. You cannot reap the benefits of liberty when you remove the source.

Our freedoms and protections are only preserved through a continuous upholding of our Rule of Law. America’s survival is contingent upon a sustained, intent-based, application of our Constitution. A Constitution which was drafted and implemented according to the principled, value-system of the faith-based Conservative.

Sir William Blackstone, the most influential father of American Law declares,

“Upon these two foundations, the law of nature and the law of revelation, depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these.”

The First Amendment was never designed to eradicate Judeo-Christian principles or place the ideals of godless-secularists above the majority religion.

To merely take our religious, Judeo-Christian roots for granted, and assume a more progressive foundation would have reaped similar results, is nothing but the blind ignorance of an anti-faith bias. A bias that wants to reap the benefits of a Godly foundation but remain outside the Creator, whose wise counsel and natural connection to His creation is the sole cause of America’s growth and preservation. Today, we’d rather go it alone…

“He that becomes protector of sin shall surely become its prisoner.” *
