All Time High Concealed Carry Permits Issued in South Dakota

Today, South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs announced that the increase in conceal carry weapon permits has continued into 2016.
“In the month of January alone we have seen the number of permits surge from an all-time monthly high of 2,968 in December to 3,879 in January. Because of these high volume increases the demands on staffing will need to be reevaluated to mainta in statutory compliance,” stated Secretary Krebs.

December 2015: 2,968
December 2014: 1,423
Total active regular permits as of January 29, 2016: 87,580

The South Dakota Secretary of State’s office issues the permits once they are approved by the County Sheriff in which the permit holder resides.
