South Dakota Legislative Billwatch Jan. 27, 2016

20070812_Pierre_132These are some of the bills of interest being considered in the South Dakota Legislature on Wednesday January 27.

HB 1008 is the transgender bill that was approved by the House State Affairs Committee on Monday. The bill would require that boys use the boy’s restroom/locker room and the girls use the girl’s restroom/locker room, and if there’s any doubt as to what sex they are, they can be given a reasonable accommodation that does not allow them access to the facilities reserved for the opposite sex. The bill will now be considered by the full House and our “Republican” supermajority, so we can only hope it’ll pass.

Another bill of personal (though somewhat less important when compared to issues such as HB 1008) interest is SB 60 which passed the Commerce and Energy Committee Tuesday with a 5-2 vote. The bill calls for the state switching to Daylight Savings Time year-round, so we wouldn’t have to engage in this asinine twice-a-year goat rope of changing our clocks.  It will now be considered by the full Senate.
