SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Maybe I Should Run for Governor?

On August 20, 2015, I helped a senior citizen client from Highland, Indiana. It was another case of medical billing fraud.

First, I wrote a letter citing the documentation that the bill was already paid by our client’s insurance company and told the medical service provider and its billing firm to stop bothering our client about a bill that was already paid. I scolded them for sending a bill to our client after they had received payments from the insurance company months earlier.

This billing of a senior citizen for a balance that was paid months earlier by the senior’s insurance company is a growing problem of medical billing fraud. It is a scheme to “shake down” seniors for money that is NOT owed. Our client agreed with me that we could do something to help catch the defrauders and protect other senior citizens. I typed and the client signed a letter of complaint to the fraud investigation unit of Medicare.

While helping this senior citizen, I got the idea that maybe I should run for governor. As a candidate, I could talk about issues that affect senior citizens more freely. I could describe proposals to help protect both senior citizens and others from medical billing fraud. Stopping just that would save Indiana citizens and government millions of dollars per year. I can make other proposals to improve the lives of Indiana citizens, too.

Who knows? Maybe I could win. If not, maybe my ideas would be adopted by a stronger candidate who really cares about Indiana’s senior citizens. If that happens, I will feel like a winner.
