Dr. Benjamin Carson has announced he is running for president in 2016.

While I and many conservatives love Dr. Carson for his truth-telling at the National Prayer Breakfast a couple of years ago, I’ve always had my doubts that he’s ready for the “prime time” of a presidential election campaign.

One of the things that give me pause are his disturbing comments that seem to indicate the Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms applies only if you don’t live in a big city.

He’s also been weak-kneed on the issue of counterfeit marriage and the homosexual agenda.

Would he make a good running mate for a solidly conservative candidate who is well-versed and strong on the issues?  Maybe.

Would he make a good cabinet appointee, say to Health and Human Services, or Surgeon General?  Maybe.

President of the United States in 2016?  I just don’t think he’s ready for a brutal contest like that. And I’m afraid that his entry in the race will siphon off the votes of some people who were impressed with his National Prayer Breakfast comments–allowing another establishment-backed loser RINO to get the nomination (i.e. Jeb Bush)–when those votes would be better spent on a solid candidate who is ready to take on whatever dark and sinister candidate the Democrats decide to try to push on the American people.

We conservatives do this to ourselves every time. We start with a field divided, one establishment-backed RINO to a half-dozen or dozen other candidates of varying conservative degree, and while the RINOs stick with their candidate in rigid lockstep, we get divided over all the other inferior semi-conservatives and doom the chance for the most conservative candidate to defeat the RINO in the primary (who could then go on to smack down the Democrat in the general).

We allow our divided focus and the “mainstream” media (telling us that the most conservative candidate “can’t win”) to ensure a RINO wins the primary…and guarantees the Democrat a win. Wasn’t Dole (Clinton), McCain (Obama) and Romney (Obama) enough?

Isn’t it time we quit shooting ourselves in the foot and handing victory to the liberals every time? America is about out of time for us to get our act together.

Carson has made enough inane statements to more than disqualify him from running as a conservative. I don’t care WHAT he has said prior to his missteps.

I find that a person is most honest in his unguarded moments. Sadly, Carson doesn’t seem to even know when he is unguarded or not.
