South Dakota Legislative Billwatch, Feb. 27, 2015

SD_HouseThe slate is not so heavy with important bills in the South Dakota Legislature today, but there are still several that deserve our attention.

SB 73 to overhaul the state juvenile justice system has already passed the Senate 35-0 and now goes to the House State Affairs Committee for consideration.

SB 82 is a seemingly innocuous bill to “update outdated language related to domestic abuse,” but as I have pointed out before, it is an attempt to undermine the sanctity of marriage by extending to non-marital and illegitimate romantic unions the same protections that have traditionally been extended only to married unions because of the unique nature of marriage. The bill has already passed the Senate with only two solid conservatives voting against it, and now it goes to the House Judiciary Committee for consideration.
