The Impact of the Ten Commandments
Dennis Prager’s Prager University has a great video (and series) on the Ten Commandments.
This introductory video examines the source of the Ten Commandments, what makes them authoritative, and their impact on society.
The founders of our great nation recognized this:
“The Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation….[God] ordered the Jews to preserve and propagate to all mankind the doctrine of a Supreme, Intelligent, Wise, Almighty Sovereign of the Universe….[which is] to be the great essential principle of morality, and consequently all civilization.” – John Adams to Judge F.A. Van der Kemp, February 16, 1809
“If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; If we and our posterity shall be true to the Christian religion, if we and they shall live always in the fear of God and shall respect His Commandments…we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country;…
“But if we and our posterity neglect religious instruction and authority; violate the rules of eternal justice, trifle with the injunctions of morality, and recklessly destroy the political constitution which holds us together, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.” – Daniel Webster
We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” – James Madison, 1778 to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia
If the people who created our country recognized this, shouldn’t we?
