Friends, Americans, patriots — lend me your ears. For once I come not to bury the Republican Party Establishment but to praise it. That’s right, it is I, a man who has been excommunicated so many times by the GOP establishment I’ve lost count, who is now here to tell of their mighty deeds. Just as “only Nixon could go to China,” so must the waxing poetic of the GOP’s “heroic” exploits come from a malcontent like me.

At issue is a proposal by the city of Richmond to seize securities backing mortgage loans that are worth less than homes were purchased for under eminent domain, and then rework the loan to the homeowner secured via separate, private financing. Bondholders would take significant losses on the mortgages, being unable to recover the original principal of the loans.

Not only did the IRS target politically conservative groups, they also sought to deny tax exempt authorizations to groups who, quoting the Wall Street Journal, “whose missions might conflict with Administration policies. The IRS’s ‘Be on the Lookout’ list that November [2010] also included red flags for groups referring to ‘disputed territories.’”

Erick Erickson at RedState points out some interesting truths about the political situation in 2014, especially when compared to that of 1998. Some (including Byron York) are wringing their hands that (gasp) the GOP might actually make the 2014 midterm election a referendum on President Obama. And of course, since Barack Obama has done so many things worthy of impeachment, the spectre of impeaching President Obama comes up in the conversation also.

The crisis on the border has just begun its planned devastation on our republic. It turns out there is an obscure Obama administration policy that’s deliberately driving this flood of illegal unaccompanied minors. “This policy [and executive order] issued in August of 2013… is called the ‘Family Interest Directive,’ and it essentially forbids Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from deporting, arresting or even detaining any illegal immigrant who is the caretaker of a child.
