The message Virginia Lt. Governor Bill Bolling is sending is that as far as a place in the future Republican Party is concerned, the tea party need not apply. Not even nominal opposition can apparently be allowed against entrenched party leaders like Cantor or his followers.

South Dakota Also Sees Syphilis Rise
I recently discussed a report from the Centers for Disease Control which found a sharp increase in the syphilis rate, and the fact that the increase was driven by homosexual behavior. Interestingly, we now see a report from the South Dakota Department of Health, as revealed by WUSA9, that syphilis is also on the rise here in South Dakota.

Last week the Supreme Court of the United States issued its opinion in the case of Town of Greece, N.Y. v. Galloway, dealing with prayer at town council meetings. The opinion of the court is being hailed as a victory by many Christian organizations, and I can understand why they might think so for on the surface that appears to be the case. However, I took the time to read from the opinion this week and looking at the details of this opinion gives me pause.

In February of 1993, a young man named Michael New enlisted in the U.S. Army. In October of 1995 he was removed from his battalion formation, read his rights and told he faced a court-marshal for refusing to wear a U.N. uniform. And in July of 1996, Michael received a “Bad Conduct Discharge”. Ever since that time he has been fighting in the courts to clear his good name and to set the record straight — that a President doesn’t have the legal right to order American troops to fight under a foreign banner or under foreign officers.

The recent kidnappings in Nigeria by the Islamic militant group Boka Haram has cast the issue of religious persecution – of Christians in particular – into the spotlight, and begs the question: Why have American Christians been so silent on the subject of religious persecution of their spiritual brethren around the world? It is a question many leaders within the American Christian community are asking, and there appears to be universal consensus that continued silence and inaction on this issue is unacceptable.
