An Open Letter on Proposed South Dakota Death Penalty Repeal

The purpose of my letter is to provide a counter argument to the recent public letter that South Dakota Representative Steve Hickey sent to Governor Daugaard and all members of the South Dakota Legislature. In his letter, Rep. Hickey announced his intention to seek a repeal of the death penalty in South Dakota. There any many South Dakotans who are strongly opposed to Rep. Hickey’s proposed legislation and I would like to communicate the reasons for this opposition.

Despite the furor over the IRS assault on conservative groups leading up to the 2012 elections, President Obama – a despotic radical who’s turned our constitutional republic into one of the banana variety – has quietly released a proposed set of new IRS regulations that, if implemented, will immediately, unlawfully and permanently muzzle conservative 501(c)(4) nonprofit organizations and their individual employees. (The 501(c)(4) designation refers to the IRS code section under which social welfare organizations are regulated).

South Dakota Legislature: Unity…or Complicity?

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader featured an article today which was both very interesting and not a surprise at the same time. The article was entitled “Analysis: In a land of political divide and vitriol, S.D. Legislature is a surprising oasis of unity.” I wonder how many people it has occurred to that, when you have such a deep ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans as we have today, unity is the LAST thing you want-at least, if you care about what is right.
