All the smartest people in the room said Australia’s Tony Abbot couldn’t win, but by sticking to his principles, four years later Abbott went on to win the general election on Sept. 7 in a Reaganesque landslide with 54 percent of the popular vote. Hailing Abbott’s example, Americans for Limited Government President Nathan Mehrens urged House Republicans to fight like Australians on defunding Obamacare, contending that if it came to a government shutdown, the outcome would not be as purveyors of conventional wisdom predict.

In the last 50 years or so, America has become a nation obsessed with rights. Elites in government, academia, the media, and entertainment take great pains to inculcate an attitude of tolerance, acceptance, multiculturalism, and diversity in the American people. The self-evident truths articulated by our Founding Fathers have been expanded upon and augmented in a way they never could have imagined.

A recent debate, centered against a Christian theme and which will no doubt require a judicial rendering, is currently taking place in a little Florida town called Deland. The controversy centers upon the innocence of a city’s seal. Its design consists of an outside blue ring containing both the city and State named identities. A smaller inner circle has a yellow background with a red heart, an anchor and cross tilting in opposition, along with the date 1882. Confounding this objection is that this seal has been official for 131 years!
