Bill to Rein in Surveillance Fails in US House
The National Security Agency (NSA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) domestic surveillance program suffered a near-death experience on the floor of the House of Representatives July 24. Although an amendment to the 2014 Defense Appropriations Act by Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) was narrowly defeated 205 to 217 in a truly bipartisan vote, the fact it even came up for a vote was a victory.

On July 23, 2013, I reviewed a hospital bill for a woman from Whiting, Indiana. She is a client of the insurance agency where I work. The bill was for $246.34. I checked with our client’s Medicare supplement insurance company to learn what it knew of the bill. It reported that Medicare never sent the claim to it. You can’t blame an insurance company for not paying a bill that Medicare never sent to it.
