U.S. House to Vote on NSA Surveillance
The National Security Agency’s (NSA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) domestic surveillance program will face its first up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives today. An amendment offered by Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash to the 2014 Defense Appropriations Act would defund any surveillance to collect communications data “if such things do not pertain to a person who is the subject of an investigation.”

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley today joined a bi-partisan national coalition of 47 Attorneys General and 2 Territory Attorneys General calling on Congress to amend the law to help fight prostitution and child sex trafficking. In a letter to key members of Congress, the Attorneys General advocated that Congress amend the Communications Decency Act to provide criminal jurisdiction to state and local prosecutors. The letter’s lead sponsors were Attorneys General from the states of Missouri, South Dakota and Washington.
