Robert Morrison has an excellent column at the FRC blog today. Being a Christian, someone gravely concerned for the moral fiber of America and our future as a nation, an amateur student of history, a fan of Winston Churchill, and having lived among the British people for three years (and personally befriended by a Briton who survived the London Blitz as a child), I was moved by this article.

Yesterday on the Rush Limbaugh program, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) explained (or tried to explain) why he as someone who should know better is supporting an illegal immigration “reform” plan that includes what amounts to little more than amnesty. Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Schumer (R-NY), a member of the Democrat Party that runs the U.S. Senate, specifically says legalize first, then secure the border (like the lie that was sold to us back in the 1980s).

Just imagine that you’re a terrorist with limited funds and you want to wreak havoc. You only have a few bombs, but you want your message broadcast to the world. How do you get the best bang for your buck? The answer is simple: turn the media into broadcasters for your acts of terrorism. (Rest assured, the politicians will also do their part to make the most of the moment and escalate a legitimate crisis into a full-blown political drama.)

The too-big-to-fail friends of the government will be made whole. The perpetually re-elected and their handlers will have their golden parachute pensions and plush jobs on K-Street and at Fannie, Freddie, and crony filled board rooms across the country. The only ones hurt will be those who do the real work, those who play by the rules. When the new bubble blows up the remedy is ready made: we’ll just blow up another bubble. How could this ever go wrong?
