Peter Dahlberg

Peter Dahlberg of Rapid City will offer a visual presentation of his experiences during the Battle of the Bulge, 1944-1945, on Saturday, July 14th at Western Dakota Technical Institute, 9-11 am. The event is sponsored by the Black Hills Veterans Writing Group.

Dahlberg was witness to savage fighting at the Ludendorff Railway Bridge spanning the Rhine River at Remagen. His 78th Infantry Division then poured into the German heartland.

Dahlberg especially remembers the intense cold, for himself and for German prisoners. “One German officer suddenly surrendered to me personally, handing over his binoculars, wristwatch, and 32 caliber revolver, but I didn’t have the heart to take his watch.”

He later ministered to other veterans at the VA Medical Center and SD State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, where he served as a Chaplain for 30 years. More of his writing is available at battlestory.org.
