SOS: Speaking of Seniors - Why the $200 Billion Medicare Difference?

In 2010, the “Obamacare” health care reform law was passed without any serious public scrutiny of the 2000 plus pages. Remember that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told Members of Congress that they would learn what was in the bill after they voted for it.

After the bill was passed and Barrack Obama signed it, the public was able to start studying it. There were many surprises in the law which never would have been passed if the public had been allowed to study and comment on the bill before the vote.

Democrats have accused Congressman Paul Ryan of wanting to push grandmas in wheelchairs off a cliff by making some reforms with Medicare. But, it was the Democrats-lead by Barrack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi-who reduced Medicare benefits for senior citizens by over half a trillion dollars. Pelosi confirmed this in an interview on CNBC on October 28, 2011 with Maria Bartiromo which I found on the internet here.

But, the General Accounting Office of the federal government studied the bill for two years and arrived at a different figure. In the last week of July, it reported that the “Obamacare” law actually reduced future Medicare benefits to senior citizens by $716 billion.

That’s the reason for the difference of over $200 billion. The half trillion-dollar reduction in benefits from the “Obamacare” law was the figure given after a quick study of the law. The $716 billion dollar figure for reduction of Medicare benefits was the figure found after a two-year study of the bill.

In either case, the “Obamacare” law clearly was written to hurt senior citizens who rely on Medicare by reducing benefits to them. Democrats have accused Paul Ryan of wanting to hurt senior citizens with his reform ideas. But, I believe that it is more accurate to say that Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and other Democrats who supported “Obamacare” mugged and robbed every senior citizen in America and everyone who will become a senior citizen in the next forty years.

I agree with you that “Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and other Democrats who supported “Obamacare” mugged and robbed every senior citizen in America and everyone who will become a senior citizen in the next forty years.” Of course, they never take responsibility for their actions — it’s always someone else’s fault or we simply don’t understand and they give us a crazy spin.

Shiny Packages & the World of Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Carrie K. Hutchens

Once upon a time, in a world pre-PC, there was this thing called "respect". In that world, some people on some occasions did get their feelings hurt by comments or actions of others. It was called rudeness on the part of anyone intentionally inflicting hurt on others and thin skin on the part of people who got hurt over the most minor of things or due to false assumptions of what was behind those words or actions they found so troubling. Then we come to modern times where the DNC chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz crashes the RNC like a spoiled brat and thinks we ought to be proud of her childish behavior?

Adoration to the Great Sovereign of the Universe

The British invaded Washington, D.C. The Capitol was burned. President James and Dolly Madison fled the White House. On SEPTEMBER 1, 1814, President Madison wrote: "The enemy by a sudden incursion has succeeded in invading the capitol of the nation... During their possession...though for a single day only, they wantonly destroyed the public edifices...An occasion which appeals so forcibly to the...patriotic devotion of the American people, none will forget."

Freedom is the Only Issue Facing Americans

Star Parker

The political parties throw a lot of glitz at us with their made-for-TV spectaculars, which we call conventions. But the bottom line defining the choice facing Americans this year is stark and clear, and these conventions provide no new insights or information. If you think we're struggling because we don't have enough government, then the Democrats are the party for you. If you think the point of government is to protect individual freedom, and the problem is it has gone way beyond that, then Republicans are the party for you.

Eastwood’s Oscar-Worthy Performance

Dr. Theo

The Democrats are furious and the Hollyweird folks are indignant calling Clint Eastwood's performance at the 2012 Republican National Convention a "disgrace," adding that it was bizarre and disconnected. Exactly! I didn't see it as clearly last night, but watching the video again today it became obvious. Dirty Harry was acting.

Aghast but Determined

Jim Bowman

In a way, I am speechless. I am left with the demanding question; How did this happen? How did supposedly educated citizens in a prosperous nation succumb to another silver-tongued con artist? Especially when his bold intention of “fundamentally changing” America was bellowed ad nauseam? Besides, what’s so wrong with our freedoms and opportunities?

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
