Is Freedom Just Another Word?

freedom

“Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose,
And nothin’ ain’t worth nothin’ but it’s free…”
 - Me and Bobby McGee, Kris Kristofferson

So it was depicted as Janis Joplin wailed out these bluesy words to this despondent tune back in 1969 at the height of the Vietnam War. I recall it well. But is it true? Is freedom really “nothing left to lose, and nothin’ ain’t worth nothin’ but it’s free?”

The Small Wars Journal Article: “Full Spectrum Operations in the Homeland: A “Vision” of the Future,”by Kevin Benson and Jennifer Weber was brought to my attention by a friend. She was [and is] very concerned about the current mindset of current military leadership, in particular the senior officers in our Armed Forces. After reading this article, I too admit that I was shocked, annoyed, angry, and found myself in awful wonderment, “What were they thinking?” This is Broken Hope and Misguided Change if ever there was!

But then, I read the comments to the article. Thank Goodness for the sanguinity and common sense of the American patriot. Many of the comments were short and to the point, some more drawn out. All were elegant. I do not recall reading one comment favorable to this very scary article. With all due respect to their achievements, Dr. Kevin Benson ["PhD" first, "Colonel" second in his Bio] and Doctor Jennifer Weber [PhD] certainly betray a certain political bias and an outlook different from 99% of the officers I ever knew. I will over-graciously extend the benefit of the doubt as to why even the discussion of such an assault on the Constitution and laws such as Posse Comitatus would even be contemplated … in any vision of operations in the Homeland!

I assured my friend that all warrior brethren, have taken an Oath to the Constitution and not to any Political Party, any Partisan Commander-in-Chief, or any of the Cabinet Secretaries. We are taught from DAY ONE to obey the lawful orders of our superiors. We take that oath seriously. We are bound to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. Creating a “Notional Enemy” out of the Tea Party is a heresy to my way of thinking. Do we really have folks teaching our senior Captains and young Field Grade Officers at Fort Leavenworth such a poisonous doctrine?

A section of the Berlin Wall

A section of the Berlin Wall

Are we seeing the deconstruction of our Armed Forces from deadly foe to the enemies of America, and the increasing drive, by not a few, to transform them into an international and domestic constabulary enemies? This is a pressing question. Those who would even contemplate such madness against the Sovereign Citizens of the United States should be in line for a thorough Psychiatric evaluation with consequences … of the kind NOT given to Major Nidal Hassan.

To these “politically inclined officers” I would advise, “Leave the Profession of Arms and go into the realm of politics. There, you will find all of the skullduggery, back-stabbing, and compromises [notional and real] to American Liberty that you need ever see and experience.” The real menace to our society is not the Constitution-loving Tea Party, the NRA, the Catholic Church, the Baptists, or the Evangelical movement. The real menace to American Freedom are those would would attack the Sovereignty first of the “various States” and then of the “Sovereign Individual.” Once those safeguards are subordinated to an out-of-control and lawless Federal Leviathan, then freedom is doomed.

My friend, and fellow member of the Long Grey Line, James Atticus Bowden, is fond of saying that the eventual spiritual re-awakening in America and the Restoration of the obedience to our Constitution will happen when we remember our foundations as a [once] predominantly Christian Nation and that this gentle revolution will be lead by what he terms an “ABC Coalition” [Assembly-Baptist-Catholic].

The Tea Party is not a group of religious crackpots. They are good solid people. They have jobs, they are Grandparents, most go to Church, they are educated, and they are from all races and ethnicities. Only a blighted and propagandistic view by the Left ever portrays them as otherwise. If you have not been to a Tea Party Rally, go to one. The worst danger to all who love Liberty is that we roll up into a defensive redoubt to fight this twilight battle for Freedom. The Besiegers almost always win. The Defenders almost always lose. Victory comes when we go on the offense. Tacticians, Strategists, Leaders and Philosophers from Sun Tse to Vince Lombardi knows that Victory requires Offense and Resolve.

So when you see this kind of stuff, take it for what it is. Read the article, then read the comments below the article. Do a bit of research and then join up. Become an activist in the Lord’s work in this gentle revolution for Liberty and the rule of Constitutional Law. We are still the freest nation in the world, but that freedom is under assault. Freedom isn’t free … Use it and Defend it, or Lose it.

Freedom is my favorite word. But there is a growing number of people who really don’t understand the meaning of freedom. Personal freedom requires personal responsibility. About half of the population thinks responsibility should be in the hands of government. They don’t really want freedom at all. What they want is license — license to do what ever they want, without consequences. They don’t want to be responsible.

That’s why they hate the Tea Party, who represent those of us who have assumed our responsibilities in life, and don’t like the fact that big government is taking over. If we cannot be responsible for our own lives, we cannot be free. We are only at the mercy of those who dictate to us.

When I was in Vietnam, I had a conversation with my company commander about the anti-war demonstrations back home and how demoralizing they were. He was quick to remind me that we weren’t professional soldiers, but “citizen soldiers” (most drafted). We were fighting in the defense of freedom — the same freedom that allowed the folks back home to freely express their discontent with the war. He respected the protesters and he respected their freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of association.

Such fundamental (transcendent) principles tend to get blurred and lost when our military becomes all professional. When armies are composed mainly of citizens from all sectors of society, they will not easily be led against their own nation or people. But professional armies are prone to become mercenaries and political pawns. And to a large extent, that describes our military today.

Things like this happen because we have forsaken our Constitution.

You’re so right, Mike. We have forsaken our Constitution and The Rock we were founded on.

South Dakota ACT Scores Above National Average

Newswire

South Dakota’s average composite ACT score remains unchanged from last year at 21.8, where it has been for the past three years. The national average was also unchanged from a year ago, sitting at 21.1 as it has for four of the past five years. While South Dakota’s scores are consistently higher than the national average by several tenths of a point, South Dakota Secretary of Education Dr. Melody Schopp says there is always room for improvement.

Our National Question Mark

Jim Bowman

As we are quickly approaching America’s political cliff, we must look back to what caused this absurd presidential quandary. Nameless grunts in and out of government have combined to rubber stamp a candidate who to this day remains a question mark. I know the question seems ridiculous, but just who is Obama?

Westboro: The Famous Church of Hate

Carrie K. Hutchens

Westboro's, the famous church of hate, seemed to be slowing down, but it appears they have merely been changing tactics or adding to them. They've moved on from protesting at funerals for servicemen or women, and have now set their sights on GaymerCon, a homosexual gamer's convention. Whether you believe homosexual behavior is right or wrong, is the Westboro "Baptist" Church's venomous tactic the right way to approach this issue?

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
