On every question of construction carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed. — Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Johnson June 12, 1823

Democrats Disavow Their Own US Senate Candidate

Bob Ellis

This is hilarious. A conservative in Tennessee entered the U.S. Senate race legitimately as a Democrat, and then won the primary. Now the Democrats have officially disavowed their own party's nominee. It seems Mark Clayton is just a little too conservative for the Tennessee Democrat Party. By disavowing their own primary winner, are Democrats telling us that (gasp) they aren't really as open-minded and inclusive as they lead us to believe?

Why We Need Publicly Funded Universities

Bob Ellis

In this enlightening Robot Theater video, we learn some interesting things: Why liberal indoctrination in public schools and universities is necessary; Why this indoctrination is required (there are fewer liberals when liberal indoctrination is not required); Why conservatives think the way they do (they spend too much time in unstructured environments, such as the real world).

A ‘Republican’ Who Speaks Conservative as a Second Language

Bob Ellis

It seems some of the most respected voices on the Right are now (at this late hour) noticing something very disturbing about Mitt Romney and the presidential race: Romney only speaks "conservative" as a second language, and he's still struggling to learn it. Inspiring, huh?

A Power Before Which Barbaric Forces Will Stand in Awe

William J. Federer

"To sink the foe or save the maimed, Our mission and our pride, We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come, Ideals for which we've died." Thus went the original anthem of the U.S. Coast Guard, established AUGUST 4, 1790. Four years later it was charged with stopping slave-traders from bringing new slaves from Africa. The Coast Guard freed nearly 500 slaves. At a U.S. Coast Guard commencement, May 18, 1988, President Reagan stated: "It's our prayer to serve America in peace. It's our commitment to defend her in war."

Black pastors oppose sanctioning gay marriage

Star Parker

Support for same-sex marriage is now in the Democratic Party preliminary platform. Once approved by the full platform committee and voted on at the convention, same-sex marriage will have the party's formal support. But as Democrats institutionalize their support for same sex-marriage, their relationship with the party's most loyal constituency, black Americans, becomes increasingly uneasy. A group of 3,700-plus black pastors, the Coalition of African-American Pastors, under the leadership of the Rev. William Owens, has moved to formally oppose the Democratic Party and President Barack Obama on this issue.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the party over to the so-called moderates wouldn't make any sense at all." - Ronald Reagan, Nov. 10, 1964
