From the first freed blacks after the Civil War who were Republicans, to the repeated Republican efforts to preserve the freedom of black Americans that Democrats have attacked for over 150 years, to the modern era where Republicans ensured continuing and growing freedom for black Americans, the link between black Americans and the Republican Party has always been strong.
