South Dakota Free Park Weekend Approaching
To kick off summer, the Department of Game, Fish and Parks encourages families to spend the weekend outside during the Parks’ Open House Weekend and Free Fishing Weekend May 18-20. During the annual three-day event, anglers can fish without a license anywhere in the state, and entrance fees are waived for all visitors to South Dakota’s state parks and recreation areas.

Every so often someone asks me to help publicize an event in their community. This time it was a former resident of Vivian wanting me to give a push for its annual Syttende Mai (Norsky Independence Day) celebration to be held this Thursday, May 17, and tie in that old, old, story about the Vikings wintering in Ireland “I believe you wrote about one time.” And for the umpteenth time I have had to say no because if I did, that’s about all I would get accomplished. Besides, I’ve told that story almost annually for years that it is starting to smell like lutefisk.

On May 2, 2012, I helped a client who is an elderly man from Munster, Indiana. He brought to our office a bill from a medical service provider with an unpaid balance. Three claims were for original billed amounts of $245, $225, and $75. The insurance company got the claim for $245 and paid its portion of the claim. But, it did not get the other two claims from Medicare. You can’t blame an insurance company for not paying on a claim that Medicare never sends to it.
