South Dakota Public Hunting Land Re-Opened

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has announced today that Waterfowl Production Area lands closed as part of the federal government shutdown have now been re-opened effective immediately. Lifting the closure on WPAs opens more land available during South Dakota’s resident-only pheasant season Oct. 12-14, open only on public hunting land. The traditional statewide pheasant season will open on Oct. 19.

South Dakota Re-opens Mount Rushmore

South Dakota Re-opens Mount Rushmore

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced this afternoon that he has reached an agreement with the National Park Service to re-open Mount Rushmore for the duration of the federal government shutdown. The National Park Service will charge the state $15,200 per day to operate the monument. The monument will re-open Monday morning at 8 a.m. MDT.
