South Dakota ‘Republicans’ Opt Against Fiscal, Personal Responsibility

Two bills dealing with drug testing of welfare recipients were heard-and killed-in committee in the “Republican” controlled South Dakota House of Representatives today. One dealt primarily with Medicaid recipients suspected of using illegal drugs, and the other dealt with TANF recipients suspected of using illegal drugs. Heaven forbid we expect government bureaucrats to grow a spin, act responsibly and require those receiving government largess they did not earn to behave responsibly.

Knowledge is the Pathway from Slavery to Freedom

Knowledge is the Pathway from Slavery to Freedom

Frederick Baily was born around FEBRUARY 7, 1817, though no accurate records exist, as he was a slave. Around 12 years old, his master’s sister-in-law taught him to read, despite this being against the law. Voraciously reading newspapers, books, and a publication titled “The Columbian Orator,” Frederick is noted as saying “knowledge is the pathway from slavery to freedom.” He later became known as Frederick Douglass.
