A Warm January Day in Rapid City

A Warm January Day in Rapid City

A day like today was almost unheard of, so the kids and I got out to enjoy it (my wife begged off, in the middle of writing her next book even as her first is about to hit the market). It’s almost unheard of to see a 71 degree day in January in Rapid City, and my schedule was flexible today, so when the kids asked to take their bikes to Canyon Lake Park, I thought that was a great idea. We saw some of the usual ducks and geese, as well as a strange look to the lake itself.  Part of it was completely ice-free and looked like a warm spring day.  Another part (one that is more in shadow from the afternoon sun), was still partially if not mostly covered in ice. But as far as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is concerned, the dust is too much.

Journalists and the Non-Smear Smear

Journalists and the Non-Smear Smear

Those who know me understand that I’m not a big Rick Perry fan.  Perry is far too weak in the area of illegal immigration and some other things to be what I would consider a good Republican candidate for president. But when I witness what can only be characterized as journalistic ineptitude or journalistic malpractice, I can’t stand idly by and watch even a candidate I don’t like be smeared and besmirched. A case in point occurred Saturday at the Rapid City Journal’s blog Mount Blogmore, when “journalist” David Montgomery attempted to smear Rick Perry as a threat to the First Amendment and U.S. Constitution. In that usual “I’m not saying what I’m about to say” manner many of these weasely “journalists” have, Montgomery began with a faux condemnation of guilt by association, then proceeded to attempt to tie Rick Perry to a statement made by a Perry supporter regarding […]
