Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke this morning at the Values Voter Summit in Washington D.C. There was a whole lot of love from the conservative crowd that greeted her as she took the stage.
She made it clear that the liberal narrative about a GOP “War on Women” made about as much sense as President Obama’s math.
Bachmann said that with a struggling economy, high gas prices, attacks on America and more, you’d almost think Jimmy Carter was still in office. She also said these conditions make us hungry for another Ronald Reagan, and the crowd agreed. Bachmann said the current administration’s response to the attacks against Americans in Egypt and Yemen have demonstrated weakness and lack of resolve.
“This isn’t just about a movie,” said Bachmann.”This is about a movement…that seeks to force its will on the world, and we will not stand for it.” Bachmann talked about efforts by Islamic countries and within the UN to criminalize criticism of Islam, and that this attitude is what is behind the recent violence in the Middle East.
Bachmann also called attention to efforts within the federal government to purge from all printed materials any negative reference to Islam or any tie between Islam and terrorism.
According to Bachmann, it’s time to draw a clear red line against America’s enemies, and if violence against America and Americans continues, it will be time to end the “gravy train” of American aid for countries in which this violence occurs.
Bachmann pointed out that America has been at war with Islamic terrorists since the beginning of our nation, a time when American ships were being attacked and crews pressed into slavery. One-sixth of our federal budget was going to pay extortion money to keep Muslim attackers at bay, until President Thomas Jefferson mounted military forces to bring this to an end in what is known as the Barbary Wars.
Bachmann also made it clear that while “the other party” had some trouble with this subject during their recent convention, Jerusalem will never be anything but the eternal capital of the nation of Israel. This statement was met with a standing ovation from those in attendance.
