Covering the Values Voter Summit

I flew to Washington D.C. today to cover the Family Research Council‘s Values Voter Summit.  I’ve covered the event a number of times in the past, but the last couple of years have seen events intervene that kept me away.

This year’s event should be especially exciting for a number of reasons.

First, it’s a presidential election year. A presidential election year always electrifies everything political (I was here in 2008 during the Obama/McCain race), and with so much on the line this election (including and especially ObamaCare’s assault on religious freedom and other liberties), there are a lot of very concerned people here.

Second, Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) will be speaking at the conference; Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has been invited to speak, but the last I knew he was unconfirmed (the campaign schedule may not permit him to attend as he usually does).

Finally, with the shooting at FRC headquarters less than a month ago by a homosexual activist, security is already anticipated to be very high for this event.  The hotel where the event is being held, the Omni Shoreham, has seen lots of high-profile events over the years (not only have several movies been filmed in part at the hotel over the years, but Bill Clinton’s inaugural ball was held here), so they know what they’re doing when it comes to keeping people safe and keeping the bad guys out.

I’ll be doing some articles about the summit over the next couple of days, and sharing some photos and video as time permits.  It’s going to be a very busy itinerary–with things going on at the summit, and other things outside the summit.

In the meantime, here are some pics I took on the way here today. I’ve been flying around over the world for nearly 30 years, but I’m always like a kid when I’m in the air. I just love looking down on God’s green earth from a few miles up, and I never get tired of seeing the majesty of our nation’s capital.  I hope you enjoy these photos.
