JANUARY 23, 1789, John Carroll founded Georgetown University.
He was brother of Daniel Carroll, who signed the U.S. Constitution and gave the land where the Capitol is built.
He was cousin to Charles Carroll, the wealthiest man in America and the longest living signer of the Declaration of Independence.
John’s nephew Robert Brent, was Washington, DC’s first mayor, reappointed by Jefferson and Madison.
John Carroll, America’s first Catholic bishop, founded the nation’s first Catholic seminary and parochial school system.
He persuaded Elizabeth Seton to start a girls school in Baltimore.
In 1776, the Congress asked him to go with Ben Franklin to try to enlist Canada’s support of the Revolution. His influence led several States to give Catholics equality. Bishop John Carroll wrote:
“Freedom and independence, acquired by…the mingled blood of Protestant and Catholic fellow-citizens, should be equally enjoyed by all.”
President Washington wrote to John Carroll, March 1790:
“Your fellow-citizens will not forget the patriotic part which you took in the accomplishment of their Revolution…May the members of your society in America, animated alone by the pure spirit of Christianity…enjoy every temporal and spiritual felicity.”

The only thing this Obama White House seems to generate is scandal. Well, here’s yet another to add to the growing list. In addition to the Benghazi cover-up, IRS targeting of political dissenters and the illegal seizure of media phone records, whistleblowers within DOJ have contacted Liberty Counsel to express grave concerns over this administration’s latest attack on freedom. Our sources have provided Liberty Counsel an internal DOJ document titled: “LGBT Inclusion at Work: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Managers.”

Looks like Zo and I have more in common than just conservatism. We both loved Battlestar Galactica (the old one) as kids, and thought Sheba was hot. But the frack they talked about isn't the kind of frack Alfonzo Rachel is talking about today: it's the fracking that produces more energy for us. I'm with him there, too. Zo discusses a film called FrackNation which dispels some of the anti-energy propaganda put out by the Left.
Polls, what do they tell us? Maybe a great deal and maybe only what a small group might think or wish those in power to think. But then... if one poll result doesn't agree with one's opinion... a search of the net will most likely turn up one that does. Amazing how that works.
When I saw the photo on The Drudge Report my reaction was the same as almost any other current or former member of the Armed Services—disgust. It reminded me of the Clintons who used uniformed military officers as servers to pass drinks and hors d'oeuvres at one of their White House gatherings.
