Ed Meese at the Liberty University Breakfast, Values Voter Summit
Things are about to get underway at the FRC Values Voter Summit here in Washington D.C. It’s a beautiful day outside in our nation’s capital.
Breakfast this morning was sponsored by Liberty University in Virginia. I had the honor of having breakfast with Reagan Administration Attorney General Ed Meese. He is a very warm and personable man, having done immeasurable good for our country.
Ambassador Barukh Binah, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC., was the keynote speaker, and he discussed the long and close relationship that America and Israel have had.
I also found out that in addition to GOP Vice Presidential Candidate Rep Paul Ryan (R-WI) speaking later this morning, GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney will in fact also be speaking.

May 23, 2013 was a sad day for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), and another tragic day for an America in decline. The Scouts' corporate-driven leaders in their folly put sexual morality up for a vote, and when it was all over, the Scouts as we once knew them -- a God-fearing, wholesome organization -- were finished.
The Supreme Court in 2010 ruled unequivocally in the Citizens United v. FEC decision that independent political expenditures by 501(c)(4) organizations are protected under groups’ First Amendment rights to the freedom of speech. They cannot be restricted. Yet the IRS, under President Obama, has sought to restrict the activities of Tea Party and other conservative groups.
The positive and negative impacts of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) will be examined by a special working group within the House Resources Committee. The committee should explore how the broadest possible application of the ESA has impacted communities, private property rights and in some cases has actually harmed the species recovery itself.
The number one charge, the highest calling and responsibility of our federal government, is to protect our shores and American lives. That’s it, pure and simple! In order to institute its fair expectation, we have created and maintain a standing military. As such, members of our military begin their service with a sworn oath to protect and defend. Along our way, standard operating procedures have gone astray.
As a new member of the House Armed Service Committee, it has been especially troubling to hear of the rise of sexual assaults in the military. According to the Pentagon, there has been nearly a 35 percent increase in sexual assaults in the U.S. military since 2010. This statistic is one of the reasons I’ve spent the last couple months working on ways to address this problem.
